So my first group of discards this week...a box of old Christmas ornaments (a dozen or so)...ones I haven't put on the tree for years...ones the kids don't want. Hopefully someone will find them desirable at Goodwill....I still have that 4ft Christmas Tree if anyone wants it. I also cleared out a gallon size bag of tea light candles that I gave to my kiddos when I found they had stocked up at IKEA. They've been in my cabinet for 2 years without being pulled out, and there are still 3 dozen up there if I need some. Another reason why I am not allowed to buy anything for the year! I'll count the tree, ornaments and tea lights as 14 items, so I am set for these first two weeks of the year. More cleaning out next week once the kido are back to school, and life resumes it's normal pace.
I discovered when I went out for a run today that I didn't have the head wrap that I thought I had...not sure what happened to it, but I can't buy a new one so I had to make do with what I could find around the house. A piece a fleece fabric left over from a blanket I made a few years ago. Glad I know how to sew!
Out with the OLD - Out with the NEW
This Blog journals a New Year's Resolution that involves getting rid of at least one 'thing' a day, and committing to not buying anything new.

Last Day of Shopping for me! UGH
Today is it for getting new things for an entire year. So, I couldn't let this day go by without a purchase: a T-shirt from Acadamy Sports. It cost a whole $5 on clearance and says Peace, Love, & Yoga. :)
Getting rid of things next week will be easy. I took down Christmas yesterday, and have a bunch of old decorations that are destined for goodwill next week. I also have a 4 foot artifical Christmas tree, if anyone wants it. It is in great shape, and in its origianl box.
Have a safe and Happy New Years Eve!

New Year's Resolution
Several years ago, I went to a dear friend's 50th birthday party and came home with a pink unitard in hand. Her mother had told her, "You spend the first 50 years of your life accumulating things, and the next 50 getting rid of things." Following her mother's advice, she brought a bag full of things from her house, many of which fell into the why-do-I-still-have-this category, and gave each friend in attendance something from this bag. I ended up with the pink unitard. I thought it was great fun, but, more than that, a great idea. Thank you for that pink unitard, Autumn. I've decided to get a head start on your mother's philosophy!
Out with the Old
365 things will leave my house this year. I honestly have way too much stuff, so I don't think this will be too difficult. I won't count things that go into the trash, but I do plan on going through every closet, drawer, nook, and cranny, so certainly some things will end up there. But my real goal is to not throw too much away, but to either sell it (ebay, craigslist), or give it away (Goodwill, or other charitable organizations).
Out with the New
The second half of this resolution I expect to be a bit more challenging. I am not going to buy anything NEW this year. The only things exempt from this resolution are food and hygiene products. I need to eat, and I know you don't want me to smell. Many "what if this happens" questions have come my way. But you see, it would be incredibly difficult for me to run out of things like underwear or make-up, because I have too much to begin with. I'm one of these people that grabs things because "that deal is just too good to pass up!" Part of the reason why I have to many things.
